The Home of UK Grime, Hip Hop and RnB!
Few labels can boast that they are the pioneers of a music genre, but Dice Recordings is able to do just that. As the vanguards of UK Grime music, their history and accomplishments to date speaks for themselves. From their roots in pirate radio (Heat FM) to organising the first ever Grime tour (The Base Defence League Tour) in 2014, they have played a fundamental role in driving the genre forward and putting UK artists on the map.
Dice Recordings was founded in 2001, to bring Grime music to the masses and to change the perception of the UK’s underground music scene and its musicians. The label has played a significant role in the transformation of the musical landscape in the UK and in doing so, it has contributed to youth culture in a way that can only be compared to the early days of Hip Hop.
Dice released the first ever Grime compilation album “Life’s A Dice Game” in 2003, which features Grime heavyweights like Skepta, JME, D Double E and Lethal B, and later that year they released Skepta’s “DTI” EP, as he was signed to the label at the time. In 2006 the label signed Big Narstie who went on to release his first mix-tape ‘I’m Better Than You’ and the track “Brushman” was named RWD magazine’s “Song of the Year”.
Since then Dice has continued to place itself at the centre of the creative melting-pot that is Grime music, by working with artists like Professor Green (Before I Die Remix), NDubz (N-Dubz vs N.A.A), Giggs (Drugs and Chicken) and Wretch 32 (I’m Betta Than U). In 2007 the Dice Team wrote and directed the film, and created the sound track for “London State of Mind”, contributed to the television show “Dub Plate Drama”, and also released Shystie’s mix-tape “Grand Theft Audio” later that year.
In 2014 Dice embarked on the first ever Grime tour (The BDL Tour) with three dates in London, Leeds and Birmingham. The tour was a huge success and helped to catapult Grime music into the mainstream, by positioning Grime artists as credible artists, who can sell records and sell out arenas. In 2016, Big Narstie’s feature on Craig David’s hit track “When The Bassline Drops”, which entered the UK top 10 and went on to become certified gold, has also forced the music industry to pay more attention to Dice Recordings and its roster of talented artists.
As we enter 2017, Dice has extended its musical reach beyond Grime music, by signing new artists like Scouse Tremz (Hip Hop/Trap), Ohema X (Soul/RnB), Xaviour (RnB) and Mike Delinquent (Garage), but still stays true to its roots with Grime acts like Izzie Gibbs who won the best newcomer award at the Urban Music Awards 2016 and Dullah Beatz.
Big Narstie embarks on the “Following My Intuition” tour with Craig David in March and then he will be joined by his Dice label mates in May for the BDL UK tour in collaboration with Live Nation.
